Pastene Sloppy Joe

Ingredients

1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp yellow mustard
⅓ cup water
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp Pastene Kitchen Ready Spiced Tomato Paste
⅔ cup Pastene Ketchup
1 tbsp butter
1 Tbsp Pastene Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 lb ground beef
½ green bell pepper, seeded and finely diced
1 small onion, minced
3 garlic cloves, minced
¾ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
salt and pepper to taste
4 buns

Directions

Prep Time: 10 minutes  Cook time: 22 minutes

  • In a bowl, combine the worcestershire sauce, mustard, water, brown sugar, and tomato paste and ketchup.
  • Place a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium/high heat. Add olive oil, butter and ground beef. Sauté the beef for about 5 minutes, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper and add in the pepper and onion. Cook another 5 minutes until the veggies are tender and beef is browned.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté 30 seconds until fragrant, stirring constantly. Add in the sauce, red pepper flakes, if desired and bring to a light boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve on toasted buns.
